TCBL Highlights From the Hardwood 12/13/08 written by Anne Decker

 SMS Jr. Boys 5 th Grade/SOS Jr. Boys 5 th grade

At the half SMS boys were in the lead. They opened up Qtr. 3 with a foul to put SOS at the line. That started the SOS scoring rally. SOS kept up their intense defense and was back at the line. SMS was held to one basket this quarter. To begin Qtr. 4 SMS boys had to stay behind the 3-point line but they were not hesitant to engage when the SOS boys came into the paint. SMS prevailed and won the game.

SMS Coach Sicard was happy that his boys could execution today. He was most impressed with that SOS never gave up when they were down.

SOS Coach Gable explained that his team is young. With this new fresh team he is excited to watch their growth as the season progresses.

SMS Sr. Boys 7 th Grade/CTK Sr. Boys 7 th Grade

Qtr 1 passed by quickly as the players moved the ball up and down the court. Shots fell for both teams as plays were executed and rebounds were caught. The quarter ended with SMS up with a small lead. SMS in bounded the ball to start the second quarter. Turnovers plagued both teams and as the 4-minute mark approached both teams only scored 2 buckets. Going into the half SMS put up two 3-pointers to secure a lead heading into the locker room. After the break CTK opened up Qtr. 4 with baskets to close the gap. The determined CTK and SMS boys never gave up and continued this fast paced game to the buzzer. SMS won the game.

SMS Coach Dawley expressed that this weekend was much more fun. The team finally put it all together today.

CTK Coach Kallenbach saw great effort and hustle on the court. She shared that SMS is a great team and our shots just wouldn’t fall today.

SMS Sr. Girls 8 th Grade/St. Pius Sr. Girls 7 th Grade

Tip off went to St. Pius for a quick basket seconds into the game. SMS put up their first basket 3 ½ minutes into the game to tie it up. Then with a steal and easy lay-ups SMS girls began their run to end the first quarter in the lead. SMS got the ball to begin Qtr. 2. Shots would not fall for both teams as the time ticked away. Both teams worked hard to get rebounds, execute plays, steal the ball, and put up outside shots. As the girls went into the half SMS was up by 6 buckets. Energized and ready to go the girls from SMS rallied in the third quarter with lay ups, steals and 3-pointers. St. Pius girls never gave up and worked hard for each basket. When Qtr 4 began SMS had to stay behind the 3-point line and could not fast break due to the point difference. The St. Pius girls did not let this deter them from playing the game. They shot from the outside, inside the paint and under the basket. At the buzzer SMS put up a basket to seal their win for the day.

SMS Coach Goldberg expressed that his girls played an outstanding game as a team today. Everyone contributed to the win.

St. Pius Coach Query explained to his girls that they learned a lot today. He told them that they all played well on defense and they all deserved a pat on the back.
